How do I make my first Kava Brew?
You need 500mL cold or lukewarm water, 50g milled kava, a medium sized bowl, and a muslin strainer cloth.
(Always use a bowl you can work with, which gives you plenty of water depth to sink your kava in, and which allows ease of preparation).
Put the 500mL water into your medium sized bowl. Put the 50g milled kava powder onto the middle of the strainer cloth, pull ends together to make a bag with the kava inside.
Dip the bag contents into the water and massage/knead vigourously for ten minutes till the water turns intensely creamy brown.
Kava Lactones are insoluble in water and thus have to be ripped out of the milled rootstock.
Wring the bag fully so all the water is removed from the bag and rootstock.
This will make four servings. Drink by skulling and before your evening meal. Drink intervals should be 10 or 15 minutes.
Snack in between drinking because this helps the absorption of kava lactones.
Always stir the bowl before serving. Kava lactones, being insoluble in water, do settle to the bottom of the bowl. |
